Most of the nearly two–billion children in the developing world are inadequately educated, or receive no education at all. One in three does not complete the fifth grade. OLPC’s mission is to provide a means for learning, self-expression, and exploration in even the most remote regions of world. By offering children their very own connected XO laptop they get a window to the outside world, access to vast amounts of information, a way to connect with each other and a springboard into their future.
In the summer of 2007 Seismonaut carried out an assessment of the OLPC pilot project in Nigeria. The findings caught the attention from a number of NGOs all working with educational programs. Seismonaut then undertook an assignment for the Danish Mission Councils Development Department identifying and analyzing the opportunities for Danish NGOs wanting to engage in OLPC supported educational projects in Africa.
