The future we were supposed to have

The future we were supposed to have

Body

I’ve always had this special interest, a fetish one might say, about yesterday’s tomorrow. Those daredevilish visions, hopes and ideas about how the future might be like. I both find it extremely entertaining, fascinating and educational to get a glimpse of how we have imagined our future during the last century. I’ve even had the pleasure of doing several talks about the topic as a kickstart for idea generating workshops and R&D teams, who need some perspective on their own shortcomings I guess… ping me if you’re interested.

If anyone has been ambassadors of fabulating foresights it’s magazines like Popular Science, Mechanix and Popular Mechanics. I just found this great collection of 45 front pages from the best and wildest period, in my opinion, with some of the most cool and compelling illustrations. Just check out this future Christmas scenario.

And for anyone else who shares my fetish I can highly recommend Yesterday’s Tomorrows – Past Visions of The American Future.
