Tetris turns 25
The classic russian puzzler Tetris celebrated 25 year of falling blocks on the 6th of June. To celebrate I’ve collected a bunch of Tetris links I’ve stolen from around the web.
The essential parts of Tetris remain the same, even after 25 years. While there have been additions and subtractions from the original format (such as Tetris2, with bombs!), the original remains the most popular.
And with good reason – I remember Tetris as one of the very first games I played, and, also, as one of the very few games my fathers has ever played. I remember a returning battle of points between him and a colleague on the old Schneider PC (yeah, PC, we were down with the hip x86 crowd back then too). If you’d like to make Tetris-friends check out the “official” Tetris community at http://www.tetrisfriends.com/.
Anyway, links as promised.
Hardcore Soviet Russian I-Have-No-Life Tetris (as posted on Twitter earlier)
Old school.
On the NES.
On the DS.
Underground. But not how you think.
And my absolute fave: Exploding Tetris, for no reason what-so-ever.
Thanks to AdFreak for finding these great videos.
Your post really brought me back. My family had a Schneider PC as well! Man those were the days. I think the first game i remember playing on a pc was Gorillas.

Oh yeah, I remember that one. I wonder which one came first of all those Bang Bang-type games… I should probably know that.
I always thought the Schneider PC looked like an electric radiator. I haven’t been able to find a picture…
