As writen earlier, both the Dutch and the Brits were lucky last year, concerning the coins in their pockets. The Dutch because they had a very very cool sparkling new 5Euro coin introduced, and the Brits because they also had new and very cool coins introduced – a six coin set, ranging from 1p to £1. At the same time us Danes lost our 25øre – a small and maybe useless but also very beautiful coin. Tough luck!

A couple of days ago however, new designs for a set of new Danish banknotes were revealed.
The Danish National Bank held a designcontest for the new notes, and artist Karin Birgitte Lund won – lucky her. This is her submission (or part of it):

I haven’t seen the full set of submissions but I saw some, and below are a few examples I liked way more. I really cannot at all relate to the submission that won – or to put it in other words: I’m NOT impressed! The day these notes will be introduced, will indeed be a sad sad day. To me they are very cold, boring and a bit too “safe”. Where are all the fairytales, the adventure and the neat and cosy athmosphere that we usually talk about, in terms of branding Denmark? The level of storytelling, creativity and vision in the winning design, is close to a cold zero. (I DO however very much like the technical drawings and map segments she used)

I like these submissions better. Wouldn’t it be fun to have banknotes like this? And what do YOU think about the winning submission?
