24-hour Ideation Process

Seismonaut developed and facilitated a 24-hour ideation process, where more than 50 prominent decision makers in the areas of design, architecture and construction, as well as politicians and the Mayor of Aarhus Nicolai Wammen, were encouraged to come up with new and visionary ideas for the development of Aarhus as an influential creative city.

Challenge

The Mayor’s Office in Aarhus has an ambition to develop the city to become even more forward-looking and progressive when it comes to design and architecture. In order to fulfill the vision, new ideas are required. The objective of the 24-hour workshop was to suggest directions Aarhus is to follow in the coming decades, in order develop a vibrant, creative and design-oriented city. The challenge for us at Seismonaut was to provide a framework to get the best possible ideas out of a dedicated, busy and creative group of people.

Solution

We gathered the designers, architects, entrepreneurs and politicians at a hotel in Ebeltoft, where they had 24 hours to unleash all their ideas regarding Aarhus’ development. As facilitators of the entire event, we designed a process in which the participants were split into groups and were faced with various challenges to solve.

The ideas that the separate groups came up with were distributed to other groups, in order for these groups to rate, contribute to and thus refine the original ideas.

Outcome

The outcome was a wealth of good ideas. Most ideas contained something interesting and promising, and through the process of ongoing rating the best ideas were identified. In conclusion, the Mayor’s Office obtained a valuable input to the continued process of transforming Aarhus into a global focal point for design, architecture and construction.

About the Client

The Mayor’s Office consists of 150 people who manage central tasks within the Municipality of Aarhus regarding political service, economy, HR, law, IT and the development of the business environment and city infrastructure.
